Press and citation
Habitance publishes a 0–100 resilience score for 7,368 countries, regions and cities, across 8 pillars, with a separate Access score for affordability and legal entry. The methodology is public. The record is versioned and never rewritten.
This page is for anyone quoting it: journalists, researchers, students, analysts, and anyone putting one of our cards on their own page.
Use it
Free for personal, academic, journalistic and editorial use, with attribution — news articles, papers, coursework, newsletters, internal decks — with no registration and no key. Putting the numbers inside a product, a client deliverable or a paid data product is a licence rather than a citation: write to us. These are the terms that come with it.
Attribution is in the card
The card carries its own attribution — Habitance, the methodology version, a link home — and must not be cropped, overlaid or edited out. A text citation names Habitance and the methodology version.
Free for editorial, academic and personal use
News articles, papers, coursework, blogs and internal decks: free, no registration, and no rate key on the embed route.
No endorsement, in either direction
Embedding the card does not make Habitance a party to the claims of the work that cites it, and the card is not an endorsement, a sponsorship, a ranking placement or a certification of anything. No placement in it is for sale, ever.
Do not change the numbers
Quoting the score with its confidence figure is citation. Showing the score without the confidence in a context that presents it as ours, or altering the number, is not licensed.
Commercial redistribution is a licence, not an embed
Systematic ingestion, bulk collection of embed routes, resale, or inclusion in a paid data product is the API licence and not the embed — write to us. The embed's job is citation, not distribution.
Informational, not advice
The card says so, and it is true of every use of it: the record is informational and is not financial, legal or relocation advice. It is a reading of a region, a city or a country, and never of an individual property.
Region score, not this property. The smallest unit we publish is an administrative region or a city. We make no claim about any individual property, and the card is not to be shown beside an address as if we had.
Cite it
Every place page carries its own citation under Sources, pinned to the methodology version you read. The shape is always the same.
Habitance. Lisbon — resilience 68/100, confidence 51/100. Methodology 0.4.3. https://habitance.io/place/lisbon-pt?v=0.4.3. Retrieved [date].
Habitance. Resilience scores for countries, regions and cities. Methodology 0.4.3. https://habitance.io. Retrieved [date].
Three things about that string are deliberate.
The confidence figure is part of it
Our scores carry a coverage figure and some of them are low. A number quoted without it is a different claim from the one we publish, so the confidence travels with the score everywhere, including here.
The methodology version is part of it
Exactly as a dataset citation carries an edition. It is what makes the permanence below checkable.
The retrieved date is yours
Printing our build date where your access date belongs would be wrong on every day but one.
The permanence promise
A published methodology version is never edited. New data is a new version, under a new directory, beside the old one — the old numbers stay where they were. So: cite us, and we will still say the same thing next year, and we will tell you if a newer version says something different.
Add ?v= to any place or embed address to pin the version you read.
https://habitance.io/place/lisbon-pt?v=0.4.3 https://habitance.io/embed/lisbon-pt?v=0.4.3
A pinned link never 404s. If it names a version we no longer serve, it shows the current record under a banner naming both versions and a link to what changed. Every change is listed at /changes, with a JSON feed and an Atom feed you can subscribe to.
Embed a place
Any place’s card can be embedded. It carries its own score, confidence, scenario, year, methodology version and source count, and it says what level it describes. Copy the snippet from any place page, or take this shape.
<iframe src="https://habitance.io/embed/lisbon-pt?v=0.4.3" title="Habitance — Lisbon" width="360" height="240" loading="lazy" style="border:0;border-radius:12px;max-width:100%"></iframe>
Lisbon is the example; every place has the same strings under the source table on its own page, and the card can be previewed before it is placed.
The kit
Vertical clips and stills, made from the published record, for use on screen. Each one walks a place across the horizons the data carries, with the scenario, the year and the confidence figure in the frame, so it cannot be shown without them. They are on the kit page, under the same terms: free to use with attribution, do not alter the numbers, do not crop out the scenario, the year or the confidence figure.
For developers
The API is public and keyless in preview, at /developers. Every response carries its attribution, its licence line, its disclaimer and its methodology version, so a stored payload keeps its terms. The preview grants no commercial licence: commercial use of API output is licensed per key, and scores are never resold as data.
Numbers, if you are writing about us
- 7,368 scored places — countries, admin-1 regions and cities.
- 8 pillars, plus a separate Access score.
- 4 horizons: now, 2035, 2050, 2080 — the projected ones are climate horizons under named SSP scenarios, never forecasts of a society.
- Methodology 0.4.3. The weights, the confidence rules and every source with its freshness are on /methodology.
What we will not do
We do not sell placement in a score, a rank or a sort order, and never have. No payment changes any number on this site. Affiliate links, where they exist, are labelled as what they are. If anyone asks us to soften a number for their market, the answer is no, in writing.

We answer corrections first. If a number on this site is wrong, say what and where: what was sent in and what happened to it is published at /record/corrections, and what the record does not yet know is at /record/open-items.
